Road Vultures

Have you seen the Red Cross sticker that doctors usually sport on their vehicles, so that they can be flagged down in case of an emergency on the road? My new mallu neighbor, who has just completed his studies and got a job, also has a similar sticker on his car. It is a smart sticker proclaiming his professions as - you won’t believe this - “LAWYER”!

Neat isn’t it?

Now if you have a legal emergency on the roads, all you need to look out for is a car with a “Lawyer” sticker and flag it down for Legal First Aid.

Person: Sir, There has been a terrible incident.
Lawyer (taking out his notebook): Tell me what happened my man!
Person: I was parking my car into this slot when this man beat me to it.
Lawyer: That is not fair!
Person: And then he stuck his tongue out at me and said naah naah naah!
Lawyer (writing furiously): This is despicable and unacceptable!!
Person: Then he laughed at me and called me “Slow Joe” *sob*
Lawyer (tearing the page): Atrocious!! Here take this note and rush yourself to my office. We will teach that bugger a lesson in no time at all.
Person: Oh My God!! This note says Lawyer charges is Rs 10,000/- :-O
Lawyer: That’s after discount my friend. I am in a good mood today.
Person: *swoon* *thud*
Lawyer: Ambulance!!

This is my last post for this year. Thanks for your patience and for dropping by to read my demented rants. Wishing you all a very Happy New Year 2010!! Have a blast this weekend and pray that I do not become yet another statistic in Goa! :)

What a hilarious post to end the year :D

I've seen lawyers having their "collar" sticker on their cars. And next time I see one I'm sure to howl out loud .. poor fellow wont have a clue as to why I'm doing this :D

And yes - you WILL be just a statistic in Goa. If I tell you by what factor the tourists outnumber the local population in Goa during New Year time, you'l faint .. so in the interest of your holoday I'l with-hold that number :D

Enjoy! Happy holiday and happy new year in advance!

well..theres a blue cross for vets, green cross for ayurvedic docs and so on. recently i was flying back home from the US on an indian carrier. there was an inflight emergency requiring a doctor. the moment they announced it, nearly 8 people got up. the white guy next to me said he was surprised to see this. not because he thought indians were more helpful, but white docs dont bother to do anything in such situations because its more likely that they will end up getting sued for some reason or the other later! nothing related to your post, but thought this was as ridiculous :)

happy new year lady..hugs! hope 2010 is even better for you. be safe in goa..run into any trouble, you know my number..and i have a lawyer friend too :) so assured medical and legal assistance with da discount! new year offer! limited validity.

I've seen cars with 'lawyer' signs many times in Kerala. May be just to show off that 'oh, here comes a barrister! we have to get out of his way!'.

There was a case lodged by red cross a few years back prohibiting the use of the doc symbol you were talking about. I think the docs have to use the white cross on the red background or something like that. Not sure whats the status of the case now...

HAPPY NEW YEAR anyway :-)

Also the Police tend not to flag down cars with the corss or the lawyer symbol. I believe this is the main reason why these symbols are on the cars.

That Lawyer sticker is to intimidate everyone around. And for sure, cops wouldn't bother with them.

Monika: I could nott understand the significance of these stickers...now I know! And thanks for delurking! :)

Shrutz: Thank you! :)

gkam: Thank you and wish you all happiness and joy this New Year! :)

Kiran: Thank you....and thanks for your encouraging comments! :) By statistic I meant, "not another crime victim" :p But you were right, the ratio of Indians to foreigners was eerily tilted in their favor. Felt funny to see an Indian state so totally taken over by foreigners!

Aditya: I remember getting this howlarious forward about the stupid questions, lawyers ask. Here is one sample - http://www.oohyeahzone.com/lawyers.html

MC: Thank you doc! So nice to see the sunshine here! Wish you the same and hoping for more posts at DOC. And thank you so much for the legal help! :p Looks like the govt is finally waking up cos there were more cops per person than ever this time in Goa.

Anon: Thank dude/dudette! :)

Scorpiogenius; Happy New Year to you too. That was really interesting info about the Red Cross. Here in Blr the "Lawyer" sticker is a new sight. I guess it is a mallu import! :p

DP: Thank you and wish you the same. :)

Irshad: Thank you!! :)

The Holy Lama: Thanks for the blessing O Holy One! :)

Anish: :) Wish you the same!

Shalini: Thank you and wish you loads of fun this New Year! :)

Pam: Pam ma'am...lol. I never thot I would use that word again....Happy New Year to you too! :)

Arun: lol! That was a good one.

Jinguchakka: Then it is a smart move indeed!

Aniket: :D Happy to see you in high spirits!!

thebanalsprite: I need all that and more this year! :)

Phoenix: Thank you girl! :)

Aniket: tch tch sweet talking granny for chocs!! :p

Anon: I am not a writer, so there is no point comparing my writing with anyone or any year. I do not subscribe to such views. But thanks for the comment!

MP: Thank you Sir! :)

Narendra: Thank you! :)
